2011: A Highly Selfish Review

Dear friends,

A new year has just begun, and it holds tremendous challenges to us iGaming marketers – mainly due to legislative regulation, which harm quite dramatically your profitability margins.

At this time of change, many operators smartly try to capitalize on their existing resources, and look for new and innovative methods to maximize their players’ lifetime-value.

Here at Hybrid Interaction Ltd. we have been assisting the industry leaders in doing exactly that, and we wanted to provide you with a brief review of what we have been occupied with during 2011: Continue reading

Boot Camp Summary

It is widely acknowledged that there is no rest for the wicked, so while normal people enjoy their Santa-time, we were asked to conduct a 2-day training session with the Conversion & Retention teams of one of Hybrid Interaction’s largest clients. You know us – just give us a chance to talk and you will have to drag us out by the end of the day :) No wonder we have picked up on consulting as our line of business…

So what caught our audience attention? Continue reading

UIGEA: The End Is Nigh?

We all talked about it, but hardly anyone could have predicted that even before 2011 ends, the American DoJ would change its position on iGaming, declaring that the 1961 “Wire Act”, applies to sports betting and not to any other vertical.

Our own Scott Yeates has been referring to a potential online poker regulation just few days before these fantastic news got publicized, at his recent article for EGR:

His prediction was that it “seems likely that regulated US online poker will open in 2012”, based on “the fact that Vegas casinos and others are gearing up for regulated US online poker”. We can only assume that the revision in the Department of Justice’s opinion reflects a very possible “bill in the works for 2012”.

Recent actions, “such as Fertitta Interactive buying CyberArts and bwin.party signing deals with MGM and Boyd Gaming” are pretty much self-explanatory even to you, right Thomas?

… and a Happy New Year :-)

T- “raining” Day

On our way to a training session with one of the Hybrid Interaction’s clients, it started to rain unexpectedly. I have used my iGaming “highly developed morality” and picked a lost umbrella on the way :)

Da Christmas Promothon – Part 2

Wow. So many of you read the previous Promothon post that we checked to see if we indeed reviewed your advent calendars instead of accidently linking to the Pirelli Calendar. Nearly 300 unique views by key online gambling executives is quite a nice response. (no Thomas, we don’t have time to explain to you how big is 300 right now).

Quick reminder: the Hybrid Interaction’s team of retention marketing experts have been reviewing and benchmarking the Christmas promotional campaigns of some of the leading online casino brands. We grade each campaign based on:

  • Design (worth up 20 points)
  • Creativity (up to 35 points)
  • Attractiveness (up to 45 points)

Ready for some more? Like we care.

Winning Poker Players: Friends or Foes?

One of the main goals of this blog is to provide a CRM perspective on any major related event that has an industry-wide interest. The recent revision of the Bodog’s Poker Room is a perfect match to this definition, and as such, we have asked Scott Yeates to provide his view on this move:

A few sites that offer poker have declared war on winning players. By war I mean that they are taking away some of the tools good players use to have an edge on recreational players. Bodog announced that all their tables will be anonymous tables going forward. Instead of having BigEd, LargeMarge and DumbThomas playing their tables, they will have Player 1, Player 2 and Player 3. Bodog Poker’s decision blocks all data mining software from working on their site. Continue reading

Da Christmas Promothon

** UPDATE: Please also read the 2nd part of this XMAS Promothon Series

It’s mid-December already, and as men of our Word Excel (ha ha), we took our time and reviewed some of the known online casinos’ XMAS campaigns. How did we do it? Lots of alcohol. Seriously, no more Grey Goose for us until Hanukkah. Yet we have also found the time in our busy schedules to review the promotions you have created and grade them based on:

  • Design (20 possible points)
  • Creativity (35 possible points)
  • Attractiveness (45 possible points)

Online Poker: a Decade in Review

Just before the year ends, we take a look back at this industry and the challenges it faced over the past 10 years. Our own Scott Yeates provided a brilliant text, revealing his own experiences through this period, and if you’ll read deeply in between the lines – I am sure you will find yourselves feeling pretty much the same as well :)
