Beat The Panel

At the iGaming Super Show in Dublin, Ireland, next month, our own Shahar Attias will co-host a panel discussion predicting what else this crazy year is going to deliver to our already crazy enough iGaming sector. Even if you’re not able to make it, we’ll be sure to raise whatever questions you have. Some topics that are sure to come up are:

  • Regulation – Italy and France, now Denmark and Spain, and soon Germany and the U.S. How will the industry change?
  • Mobile – With events such as the Olympics and Euro 2012 coming up, will it become the preferred channel?
  • Social media – Will traditional gaming companies move in and try to dominate another channel, or will it be the other way around?
  • Full Tilt Poker – Does the brand still hold a chance?
  • Playtech – Is there any valid competition?
  • Asia – Can we finally settle the question on whether the same techniques used elsewhere work there?

What else is on your mind? What thoughts do YOU have about these topics? Tell us! Shahar’s panel discussion will take place at noon, May 24, in Conference Room 1.

If you’ll be around, get in touch. The first beer is on the house!

April Fool’s Day

Know any good recent online gambling pranks? Let us know! Best ones we have managed to find today are FTP is back online (yeah, right) and Calvin Ayre adding a male section – sorry Thomas, we know you have already had your edible taxi driver custom ready, but that’s even less likely to happen, if that’s possible :)

And on the other side of Video Gaming, IGN has compiled a great list of this year’s major pranks, including a Kinect feature Assassin’s Creed (if you are smiling right now – you are geek, and we respect you for being one!!).

Anyway, have a fantastic week – you are all god’s gift

The fix is in – and it’s perfectly legal

Today, we’re going to talk about “fixed” gambling – no, not fixed as in a sports contest where the outcome is decided in advance. We’re talking fixed as in fixed odds, one of the growing trends in online gambling.

All forms of betting are based on the player wagering on a specific outcome of some future event. It could be a sporting match, with bets placed on who will win, by how much, or even what the total points will be. Or you could bet on whether Thomas will ever be able to calculate how long it takes a car to go 80 miles when travelling at 80 Miles per Hour?

Everest Goes VIP

A new Loyalty Scheme is always a good reason for all of us Retention Marketing Experts to have a look at the competition, and try to analyze how their Player Development pros are facing the problems we all deal with during our day jobs. Yes, same one you guys do with your clothes on :)

Everest Gaming is not just any name – it’s one of the most established and well-known brands that are out there, and they have recently launched a Points-Based VIP Program with 2 of their leading casino skins. Using our highly developed moral values, we are happy to disclose that we were indeed part of the thinking process, yet as always, remain objective with our review:

The Good: a transparent, easy to understand program, with super generous terms that focus on what players like most.

The Bad: well some of the procedures had to be designed to operate manually for now, but that’s really not a customer-facing negative point at all, so it can’t be counted… How about you guys tell us what can be improved?

The Ugly: well, Thomas, but you kind of knew that already.

For the complete PR, please Click Here, or go directly to the program details at the online casinos’ dedicated sections:

iCE 2012 Experts’ Panel

Hello ladies (and girls) – a short gig this time:

Just letting you know that there was a new bit published, with some extra tips from one of the more interesting discussions I was chairing during the Annual Online Gambling CRM & Retention Conference.

Executives from both Rank Interactive and Virgin Games  (wipe that smile Thomas, you are still the only one in this industry), debated over best practices for optimising player insight and data mining.

Baby, he did it again

Earlier this month, Scott Yeates went on camera and yack-yack-yacked with Warren from Casino Affiliate Programs about the secrets to success. We know sharing is caring, so we had no problems with that at all. So we told him that. Over and over again, while hammering bamboo sticks under his fingernails. Until he surprisingly agreed – voluntarily! – not to record any additional revealing video interviews again. I guess it’s true what Carl von Clausewitz said about political intercourse, along with the addition of other means… Looks like diplomacy does work after all :)

So once video is out of the picture (ha-ha!), our own Master of Indiscretion (hmm, not bad) has just released not one, but  TWO professional articles… he first wrote a piece for the CAP people about how people in this highly moral industry of ours could learn several things from the way Royal Caribbean plans and builds its cruise ships. Then he went and found examples about the dangers of not keeping up with changing trends on the Internet, pointing an accusing finger at a search engine he once loved that starts with a Y and ends with an exclamation point (no Thomas, not “Yogi the Bear!”…).

You don’t need to read these posts. These are not the articles you are looking for. You can go about your business. Move along. Move along.

Think / Do

As people who live the World-Wide-Web on a daily basis, you probably all have seen the annoying meme with various observations about what different people think about a specific profession. Well, if it’s annoying and online… look up, now look down, now tell me: what would you change within the iconographic below?

We look forward to your comments!

The Flip Side

Although it has already been discussed few weeks ago in our Social CRM #2 post, I believe this case to be one of the most outrageous examples of how NOT to deal with your customers, hence I have decided to thoroughly cover it below. Well, yeah, it’s not like you can actually object or anything, right? (Evil laughter, along with pointing my pinkie to the lip corner).

Anyways, here is what was dubbed as “most outlandish PR blunder in video gaming history”:

A guy named Dave, ordered a couple of special controllers for his gaming console from a company called Ocean Marketing (OM), who got the exclusive license to market them within the US (yes, I know how good it feels to read “license” and “US” within the same sentence :). His original intention was to use them as XMAS gifts, since the promised shipping date was prior to DEC 24.

After few super polite and informative emails sent to Paul from OM, all answered in half sentences, Dave understood by DEC 26 that his devices won’t arrive on time, and that if now, 2 months after his original order he would submit the same order again, he will get $10 off. So he got a bit upset about that. Honestly, just a bit, and in a very non-emotional manner (yes, just like your players…).

Yeates tells all: Our poker expert spills the beans on video

You’d think a poker player – a WORLD-CLASS poker expert! – would be careful about sharing what he knows. You know, play his cards close to the vest, right? Especially with that US online poker regulation going on! But not our own Scott Yeates. In an extensive video interview with Warren from CAP, Scott talks about VIP strategies, bonuses, player habits on the Internet … you name it.

But we don’t really mind that much, knowing you people and your highly moral preferences regarding what type of videos to consume online (no Thomas, lasting 17 seconds doesn’t count as satisfying by any partner), so you know, before reaching the part in which he shares the keys to success in Online Gambling Retention Marketing, you’d probably fall asleep or something.

PS: due to our agreement with CAP, we provide the video “as is”, including the annoying ad. We do apologize for that (mainly, because we are getting nothing out of it…)
